whose primary responsibilities include offering and developing
courses ranging from undergraduate surveys to upper-division
courses and graduate-level seminars in their areas of
specialization. Specific courses that this person could teach
include, but are not limited to, The California Experience,
American Social History, The Multiracial History of America, and
Native American History. The successful candidate will have an
active research agenda that focuses on Indigenous epistemologies
and methodologies. Candidates whose work focuses on Native American
histories are encouraged to apply. Areas of expertise may include
cultural and/or political sovereignty, gender, oral traditions,
public memory and preservation, and community histories.The
successful candidate will demonstrate the potential to produce
scholarly works commensurate with the requirements for tenure and
promotion. Faculty are expected to contribute to and participate in
the life and development of the department, advise students, serve
on committees, and participate in the broader university and
disciplinary communities.Required Qualifications
- Ph.D. in History or related field (e.g., Native American
Studies, Ethnic Studies, American Studies) with an emphasis in
Native American Studies or a related field; Ph.D. required by time
of appointment.
- A strong foundation and training in Native American
histories.
- A commitment to providing high-quality education.
- Potential for and/or demonstrated ability to teach students
with diverse backgrounds at the undergraduate and graduate
level.
- Potential for and/or evidence of scholarship related to Native
American histories.Preferred Qualifications
- A research agenda that focuses on Indigenous epistemologies and
methodologies.
- Experience working collaboratively with local community
organizations.
- Knowledge of indigenous languages relevant to their research,
teaching and community engagement.
- Community-based research, project-centered teaching,
public/digital humanities, and/or a research and teaching
trajectory that centers social justice.
- Demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion in teaching,
scholarship, and/or service.
- Expertise in one or more of the following areas: cultural
and/or political sovereignty, gender, oral traditions, public

nineteen departments housed within the College of Humanities and
Social Sciences (H&SS). The department is looking to expand
course offerings that explore ethnic, gender, and environmental
themes as well as a new curricular category called "History in
Action" that seeks to engage students in the hands-on approaches
and applied uses of history. Should the candidate have an interest
or background in community-based research, project-centered
teaching, public/digital humanities, and/or a research and teaching
trajectory that centers social justice, they would find a welcoming
department and college that could support such efforts.H&SS is
the largest college at CSUF, offering 23 undergraduate degrees, 38
minors, and 15 graduate degrees. Our mission is to educate students
to be culturally, globally, socially, historically and
environmentally astute, civically responsible alumni able to

primary initiatives in the College of Humanities and Social

awareness.CompensationThe Assistant Professor (Academic Year)
classification salary range is $6,221 to $13,224 monthly (12
monthly payments per academic year). The anticipated hiring range
is $7,924 to $8,067 per month. Salary offered is commensurate with
experience and qualifications. In addition, the California Equal
Pay Act prohibits employers from paying its employees less than
those of the opposite sex and/or another race or ethnicity for
substantially similar work ().Summer research grants, moving
expenses, start-up funds, and a reduced teaching load may be
